Sophia laid on her back staring up at the ceiling, mind racing too much for her to fall asleep just yet. Normally she’d be surfing the web with a movie playing to distract her, but she was in a new environment and without her computer. She pulled out her phone, a weak attempt to entertain herself until she hopefully fell asleep, only to see her battery percentage was already at twenty. With another heavy sigh, she flipped through her newsfeed and played a quick game of tetris until the screen went black. To her luck, she really didn’t need her phone in the morning so the lack of charge wouldn’t be much of a hindrance. After what felt like hours of tossing from side to side and removing her sweatshirt from being too warm, the girl stood up and walked into the hallway as quietly as possible. With a shaky hand, she edged the door open before rasping her knuckles against the wood. “I couldn’t sleep.” Sophia said softly, biting her lip as she leaned against the door frame.

In less than ten minutes, he had tossed his cigarette out of his window, and lay there in the darkness for what seemed like eternity. He thought about what had transpired just mere moments ago, and wondered what had been going on inside of her head. She was just a yard away, he could go to his guest room whenever he wanted. A light smile left his lips at the thought of him scurrying towards the room across the hall and sitting on the edge of the bed until the sun rose across the horizon. He wouldn’t dare do such a thing, his pride triumphed over all other things, and his arrogance was greater than his common sense. As if the gods were hearing his thoughts, he heard the creak of his door open, and the all-too familiar voice that had been accompanying him downstairs. He sat up, watching her slender shadow, attempting to cloak his smile with a grim face. “Me too.” Was all he managed to say, voice no less than a whisper.
