Sophia opened her mouth to say something but quickly shut it. Part of her wanted to argue her point but she knew there would be consequences to doing so and that was the last thing she wanted. “I care. You’re not burdening me at all, really.” She pleaded, hurt as he pulled his hands away from her touch. Her voice was soft, barely a whisper as she watched a salty tear roll down his cheek. Yes, his words were on the side of being hurtful but she partially understood because it wasn’t an easy subject. “But I do.” The brunette shook her head, finally ready to show him he was actually wrong. “I do care. I don’t mind if you believe it or not, but I truly do care. I wouldn’t be here listening to you if I didn’t care.”

“Yeah but…” He wanted to ask why, but he didn’t really have the strength to muster those words. Jasper never relied on anyone. On the contrary, people always relied on him. Such sad little games people play, especially on him. He rarely ever depended on anyone, except for when he had been but a child. “…I never really understood, y'know?” Perhaps he had just been misreading her body language, and her words overall. “Outside of my house… people always thought I was cool. Like, some god or somethin’. That’s the only reason why I spent my days there,on the streets, with friends I thought were my friends.” His tears just kept coming, an endless waterfall. “All they ever wanted was the hook up. The drugs, the contacts, everything.” Quivering, he placed his hands atop of hers, instantly regretting it.
